What happens if a payment fails

Learn about the SMS notification process, grace period, and steps to resolve failed payments.

If a payment fails (primary and all backup cards declined), AlyaPay has a notification system to help you resolve it quickly. Here's exactly what happens and what you need to do.

When does a payment fail?

A payment fails when:

  • Primary card declined

  • All backup cards also declined

Common reasons:

  • Insufficient funds in all accounts

  • All cards expired

  • Cards blocked by bank

  • Technical issue with card

SMS reminder schedule

You'll receive reminders to help you resolve the issue:

  1. You'll receive the 1st SMS when the payment fails

  2. A REMINDER SMS is sent 48 hours after failure

  3. A FINAL REMINDER SMS is sent 96 hours after failure

What you need to do

Act as soon as possible! Here are your options:

  • Add funds to existing card

  • Update existing card details

  • Add a new card

  • Contact support

How to retry a failed payment

Once you've resolved the card issue:

  1. Go to Purchases page

  2. Find purchase with warning

  3. Click on the purchase

  4. Click "Make Payment" button

  5. Confirm payment

The Activities page is your complete transaction log.

To access:

  • Go to main menu

  • Tap/click Activities

  • See all transactions chronologically

A: No, your purchase remains active. You still owe the amount and need to resolve it.

Q: Can someone else pay for me?

A: Yes, you can add someone else's card (with their permission) as a payment method and retry.

Q: Will a failed payment show on my credit report?

A: Typically only if unresolved for extended period (weeks/months). Resolve quickly to avoid this.

Q: Can I skip this payment and pay the next one?

A: No, you must resolve failed payments before making future payments.
